Assassin's Creed Introduces Unexpected AoT Crossover for Holiday Season
In a surprising collaboration that breaks conventional forecasts, the game developer has announced an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected Thanksgiving event runs from November 25 through December 22, offering no-cost additional story content for Shadows players.
Mysterious Mission Uncovered
According to the official release, "A strange encounter pulls protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh mission, where rumors of prohibited rituals and monstrous metamorphoses echo through the shadows." The narrative introduces a "oddly dressed woman named Ada" who assigns the pair with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a clandestine cult.
The questline focuses on "peculiar tests and a fearsome enemy" and is available to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Iconic Settings and Transformations
The teaser highlights the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was previously where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through generations. The trailer finishes with a striking scene showing a character, presumably the captive, morphing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.
Special Items and Extra Material
Players who successfully complete the adventure will receive an unique katana together with multiple objects secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also includes premium Attack on Titan item packs, offering:
- Titan-based costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa costume for Naoe
- Unique weapons
- Survey Corps steed
Third Free Story Content
This release also introduces the game's newest no-cost story content, titled "The Mystery." This playful mission teams Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic skills: Naoe introduces a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "The Enigma" also features a original environmental puzzle that may ultimately explain some lingering questions from the main storyline.
Past Japanese Animation Crossovers
This represents not the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime properties. The series previously featured a 2020 cross-promotional story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that clearly referenced the well-known series One-Punch Man.
