This situation caused a temporary halt of airport operations.

Groups also flooded surrounding thoroughfares and attempted to breach parliament, where the government had originally scheduled the public viewing.

Political Impact and Community Support

Though mainly known as an government critic, Odinga served as prime minister in 2008 and also formed a political pact with the leader last year in a political journey defined by changing partnerships.

He commanded intense commitment among followers, particularly in his Luo community based in the country's west, many of whom contend he was deprived of the highest office by vote manipulation.
